NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The No. 3 Merrimack College field hockey program – playing its first game since receiving the highest national ranking in school annals – heads on the road on Wednesday night to face Assumption College at 7 p.m. from the Multi-Purpose Stadium on the Greyhounds' campus in Worcester, Mass. The Warriors bring an eight-game winning streak into Wednesday's tilt, which is tied for the longest for the program since 2015.
Inside the Series:
- Since 2003, Merrimack owns a 15-10 advantage over Assumption in 25 contests over the last three years
- The Warriors have topped the Greyhounds by one-goal margins in each of the last two years. The most recent contest in Worcester went in favor of Merrimack, 1-0, with junior goalkeeper Katharina Ohmen making 12 saves in the victory
- Merrimack has not lost in the regular season at the Multi-Purpose Stadium since 2014
Five Things to Know:
- The Warriors' current eight-game winning streak equals the run the 2015 program went on as the longest in the last four seasons. With one more victory, Merrimack will join the 2012 unit with nine-game winning streaks, which would be the second longest in school history
- In the latest Penn Monto/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Coaches Poll, the Warriors rose to No. 3 nationwide, which is tied for the highest national ranking in school history
- The Warriors are one of two undefeated Northeast-10 Conference programs remaining, joining league-leading Pace (6-0). The Setters are also the fourth-ranked team, nationwide
- Both seniors Mary McNeil and Delaney Yule received NE10 hardware this week. The former was named NE10 Player of the Week after leading Merrimack with seven points in two wins while the latter scored Merrimack's game-winning goal against No. 10 LIU Post – the program's first win over the Pioneers since 2005
- Nationally, Merrimack boasts arguably the best overall offense. The Warriors lead the nation in scoring average (4.30), penalty corners per game (15.70), points per game (11.00) and rank second in assists per game (2.40). Individually, McNeil leads the country in assists per game (0.80), and owns a conference-leading eight this year. She is two assists away from setting a new program record (38)
