NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College men's soccer team looks to get back to form as they host New Haven on Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m.
Last Time Out:
- Merrimack started the game against Le Moyne with a head of steam, coming off their Tuesday night win over Stonehill. It took just ten minutes before the Warriors struck first, applying pressure on the #22 Dolphins. After a Le Moyne foul, freshman Filippo Begliardi Ghidini bent the set piece in from just outside the box to make it 1-0.
- The Warriors took the lead into halftime, and were holding the clean sheet up until the 55th minute. Marek Weber took a ball just inside the 18 and was able to finish it into the bottom left side of the net.
- Le Moyne took the lead back in the 63rd minute. Salar Faryar netted his tenth goal of the season after breaking away on a through ball and finishing a low show into the side netting.
- In the 69th minute, the Dolphins tacked on another. On a cross in from Robert Rohrirsch, Weber tallied his second goal of the game and eighth of the season with a header inside the box.
- Three minutes later, the Warriors battled back to cut the deficit. A shot inside the right post from Ghidini gave the Warriors their second goal, making it interesting with 15 minutes left.
- The Dolphins held on for the final 15 minutes, despite great pressure from Merrimack.
Mack Facts:
- Merrimack ranks 6th in the Northeast 10 Conference standings.
- Senior goalkeeper Tyler Packett leads the NE10 in goals-against average (0.75) while only allowing six goals in eight games (good for second in the conference) and is fourth in the conference in save percentage (.786).
- Senior Lars Sund is tied for second in the NE10 in assists (4).
- Freshman Filippo Begliardi Ghidini leads the team in goals (4) and points (8).
Inside the Series:
- Merrimack is 13-2 all-time against New Haven dating back to 1998.
- New Haven has not defeated Merrimack since 2000.
- Merrimack has scored at least one goal in every matchup against the Chargers.
- Last season Merrimack defeated New Haven, 3-0.
Scouting New Haven:
- New Haven has scored 17 goals on the season, averaging 1.89 goals/game with a 2.79 goals-against average in nine games this season.
- Senior Enrique Barboto leads the Chargers in points (9).
- Despite the Chargers' record, the two wins they do have come against conference foes. Their most recent, 4-3, double-overtime win against AIC looks good, but the team is also accountable for handing Adelphi its only conference loss of the season, scoring six goals in the rout.
