SNHU Upends Women’s Volleyball Tuesday

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Freshman Megan Rumenapp of the Merrimack College women's volleyball program dished out a team-best 21 assists and narrowly missed on a double-double with a team-best eight digs, but the host Southern New Hampshire Penmen posted a 3-0 victory on Tuesday evening in Northeast-10 Conference action from the Stan Spirou Field House.

Set Breakdown
  • The opening set was tied on four occasions, but the Penmen outlasted the Warriors to prevail. Facing a 15-12 deficit, Merrimack used a 4-1 spurt to pull even after a kill from freshman Sophie Meyers. The hosts  inched ahead by two, but classmate Brooke Leestma added a point of her own to create another deadlock at 18-all. From there, however, SNHU used five straight points to claim hold of the frame, eventually winning by a 25-21 margin
  • A run of 6-0 to start the set followed by a 7-0 stretch that created a 15-point advantage allowed the Penmen to grasp control of the second set. Leestma and senior Sofia Basauri recorded a couple late kills, but the Penmen moved within a set of the match via a 25-9 victory
  • Freshman Kara Haase and Meyers posted kills as part of a 7-5 run to start the third set, giving Merrimack an early lead. Leestma hit a kill to the court to brought the contest to a 11-11 tie, but the Penmen responded with an 8-0 stretch that swung the match in their favor. The Penmen would win six of the final 10 point of the night, winning by a 25-15 final
Top Performers
  • Rumenapp extended her streak with at least 10 assists to seven matches, and posted an least 20 for the second consecutive effort. She tied her career best with the eight digs
  • As the team, the Warriors collected six block assists with Meyers leading the way with two. She now owns a team-high 37 on the year
  • Basauri and Leestma tied for the team lead with six kills apiece. The former added six digs while the latter collected five
Notes and Notables
  • Both Meyers and Haase posted hitting percentages of over .400 (.429). The duo combined for six kills on 14 attacks without committing an error. Both players are among the team leaders in hitting percentage, with Meyers' .238 clip sitting atop the rankings
  • SNHU controlled the service line, striking six aces compared to just one for the Warriors. The Penmen's setters also dished out 37 helpers while Merrimack finished with 23 helpers
Up Next
Merrimack will play in its final match of the year on Saturday afternoon when the Warriors head to Springfield, Mass. to face American International at 5 p.m. at Butova Gymnasium.
