NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – In its final game until next Wednesday, the Merrimack College women's basketball program will look for its first divisional win of the young season on Tuesday night when the Warriors host undefeated Southern New Hampshire at 5:30 p.m. from Hammel Court.
Five Things to Know:
- Senior captain Lindsay Werner ranks four in the conference and leads Merrimack with 20.2 points per game. She is 0.6 points shy of the conference lead, and is one of 50 players nationwide to currently average at least 20 points per contest
- Fellow senior captain Karlee Alves paces the NE10 with 8.8 assists per game, which ranks second in the country. As a team, Merrimack ranks 10th in the NE10 by averaging over 19 helpers per game. Defensively, Alves is the nation's leader in total steals (29) and steals per game (5.80)
- Merrimack's defense is anchored by junior Denia Davis-Stewart, who boasts a Division II-leading 25 blocks while ranking third in the country with 5.0 blocks per game. She has recorded at least five blocks in all but one game so far this season
- Merrimack is a perfect 4-0 in non-conference play to start the season, sweeping its home tournament to start the year before last week's sweep of the Regina Rivera Tournament. Down in Orangeburg, N.Y., the Warriors notched victories over Dominican and Felician
- As a team, the Warriors have scored at least 70 points in five straight games to start the season, which is believed to be the first such occurrence in school history to start a year. Merrimack is averaging 89.3 points per game, boasting the 16th-most potent offense in the nation
Series History:
- Recently, the Penmen have had the upper hand in the all-time series via a 3-1 record against Merrimack over the last two years
- The Warriors topped the Penmen, 56-49, at Hammel Court last season to snap a three-game losing skid against SNHU. Davis-Stewart posted a monster effort with 17 points and 16 rebounds while sophomore Mayson Kimball added 13 points and seven boards
- Prior to 2016-17, Merrimack dominated the all-times series to the tune of seven wins in eight tries from 2012-16
