NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – In a battle of the top-two programs in the East Region and two-two programs in the Northeast-10 Conference, the third-ranked Merrimack College field hockey program brings its undefeated conference record to Pleasantville, N.Y. when the Warriors face fellow undefeated and fourth-ranked Pace University. The tilt is slated to begin at 4 p.m. from Finnerty Field.
Inside the Series:
- Pace's field hockey program started in 2015, and in the just four years the Setters have emerged as a regional power
- The Warriors won their first game against the Setters, 6-0, but Pace has prevailed in each game the last years, 2-1
- In each of the last two meetings, Merrimack has scored first only to see the Setters score two unanswered to win each contest
Five Things to Know:
- The first regional poll was unveiled on Wednesday afternoon, with Pace edging out Merrimack for the top spot in the region. The Warriors topped Stonehill, 3-1, on Wednesday night after the Skyhawks were unveiled as the fourth-ranked team in the poll. The top-three programs at season's end advance to the NCAA Tournament
- The Warriors own the edge in the national poll however, maintaining their No. 3 spot in the poll for the third straight week. Pace arrived just behind the Warriors in fourth
- With Wednesday's win, the Warriors guaranteed they will finish no lower than third in the conference. A win tomorrow will give Merrimack the inside track at the top spot in the league, with just two games remaining in the regular season
- Senior Mary McNeil reached 40 points on the season with a goal on Wednesday, tying her career high with her 14th of the season. She also posted just the seventh single season with at least 40 points in school history. She leads the country in assists per game (0.80)
- Merrimack continues to pace the country in goals per game (3.87), and in total goals (58). The Warriors also lead the land in penalty corners per game with 14.00 and 210 corners, and are outscoring teams by 2.76 goals per contest, the highest margin in Division II
