Game Notes Merrimack

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College men's ice hockey team resumes league play and closes the month of November with a single game at Matthews Arena to take on No. 13 Northeastern University on Friday night in Boston. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.

Five Things To Know
  • Merrimack will look to get its fifth win of the season against the Huskies on Friday night. The Warriors are 4-4-1 in games after losses this year. They have not lost more than two straight games and are 3-0-1 in games played after two straight losses. They are, however, in the midst of their longest winless stretch this year (0-2-1).
  • Merrimack leads the country in one-goal games played, having done so eight times. Only New Hampshire has played as many one-goal games nationwide.
  • Merrimack is searching for its first win in seven games against Northeastern (0-6-1). Its last win was in March of 2015 as part of a two-game postseason series sweep in the opening round of the Hockey East Tournament at Matthews Arena. Its last win at Lawler Rink against Northeastern was in November of 2014.
  • Four of Merrimack's top-five scorers are juniors, headlined by Tyler Irvine's 12 points (5g, 7a), which are a new career-high. Johnathan Kovacevic is the top scoring defenseman with nine points (3g, 6a), while freshman Chase Gresock has a three-game point streak and is second overall with eight points on the year.
  • Merrimack's power play unit has scored at least one power play goal in eight out of 14 contests, including four games with two power play goals.
