How It Happened
- Penalties dominated the opening frame; six in total were called, giving both teams a combined six power play opportunities (4-2 Merrimack). Despite a 12-9 shot advantage, the Warriors were kept off the board, while the only blemish from either goalie was a goal by BC's JD Dudek at 15:30, giving the Eagles a 1-0 advantage after 20 minutes.
- The hosts needed only 44 seconds to add to their lead at the start of the middle period, and then lit the lamp twice more before the halfway point to build a 4-0 advantage. Freshman Logan Drevitch got the Warriors within striking distance with his first collegiate goal late in the stanza, but Merrimack found itself down 4-1 heading to the second intermission.
- The score went unchanged over the entirety of the third, as BC goaltender Joe Woll finished with 29 saves to seal the decision. Senior Drew Vogler entered in the third and was fantastic, finishing with 13 saves to keep the Eagles from doing any further damage.
Scoring Summaries
- Goal #1 (BC, 0-1): Dudek put the hosts in front 15:30 into the game, pushing in a rebound at the glove side post. Logan Hutsko had the initial shot that was stopped, but the puck popped out to the left of the paint, where Dudek pounced.
- Goal #2 (BC, 0-2): David Cotton doubled the lead for the Eagles just 44 seconds into the second. He buried a tic-tac-toe passing sequence at the top of the crease blocker side, with Hutsko setting him up.
- Goal #3 (BC, 0-3): Julius Mattila added another goal for the Eagles with his first of the season at 3:53 of the second. He skated the puck in from center ice, beat a defender and went forehand to backhand to score glove side.
- Goal #4 (BC, 0-4): Cotton made it 4-0 BC with his team-leading fifth goal of the year with the Eagles on the power play. Some precise passing by the Eagles set up the score, with Casey Fitzgerald finding Mattila down low to the right of the cage, and the latter set up Cotton in the slot for a one-timer.
- Goal #5 (MC, 1-4): Drevitch netted his first collegiate goal at 15:22 of the second. Junior Patrick Kramer stole the puck down at the goal line and quickly fed Drevitch for a one-timer at the near circle, and his shot found the upper-right twine.
