NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – A battle between two of the top-four programs in the Northeast-10 Conference awaits as the No. 4 Merrimack College field hockey program look for a win against Saint Anselm on Senior Night tomorrow evening. The game is set for 7 p.m. at Duane Stadium.
Inside the Series:
- Merrimack is 15-5 all-time against Saint Anselm, dating back to 2003.
- The Warriors have won each of the last two meetings, outscoring the Hawks, 8-3, in that span.
- Last season the Warriors defeated the then #3 Hawks on the road by a score of 4-2, which handed Saint Anselm its first league defeat of the year
Five Things to Know:
- Senior captain Delaney Yule highlights the defensive group for the Warriors as she has won three NE10 Defensive Player of the Week awards. Yule is fourth on the team in points (13), goals (5), and assists (3); she is second on the team with two defensive saves. She set a career high in points this season and is headed to the Division II senior game at Duquesne University on November 30, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Â
- Senior captain Mary McNeil ranks as one of the top Division II players in the country as she ranks second in the nation in assists per game (.75), 11th in goals per game (.94) and fifth in points per game (2.63). This season she leads the Warriors in points (42), goals (15), and assists (12); she set career-highs in all offensive categories this year and surpassed 100 career points this season (currently 118). She will be joining Yule in the Division II senior game on November 30.
- Senior captain Samantha Bartush is another member of the dominant defensive unit as she earned a national defensive player of the week award during the season, one of three defenders to win the award. On the season, Bartush has nine points, three goals and three assists, along with one defensive save, which ranks third on the team
- The Warriors currently rank second in the NE10 standings. With the #1 seed locked up by #4 Pace University, the Warriors need a win in one of their last two games to secure the second seed in the conference tournament. Saint Anselm currently ranks fourth in the conference, and has a chance to finish ahead of Merrimack in the standings pending the results of the final two games of the regular season
- Merrimack continues to remain one of the top scoring teams in the country, ranking second in goals per game (3.69), points per game (9.44), and scoring margin (2.53). The Warriors also lead the land in penalty corners per game with 13.50 (216 corners), and total goals scored with 59, two more goals than fellow NE10 foe LIU Post. Merrimack holds the second-best winning percentage (.875) behind #4 Pace (.941).
