SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Merrimack College men's tennis team faced off against another nationally ranked program on Tuesday afternoon, taking on the 13th-ranked program in NAIA in San Diego Christian. Seniors Mikhail Belov and Frank Vega won at first doubles (9-8 (7-3)), but the Warriors suffered an 8-1 loss against the Hawks at the Lake Murray Tennis Club.

Rapid Recap
  • The Warriors won the first point of their California trip at the top doubles flight, seeing the senior tandem of Belov and Vega prevail in a tiebreaker. The veterans faced a deadlock after 16 games, and rallied to win the breaker in 10 points, 7-3
  • Junior Tyler Clontz and sophomore Paul Weidinger hung in at No. 3 flight, but dropped an 8-5 match for the second straight day, which guaranteed a lead for SDC entering the singles portion of the match
  • All six singles matches lasted two sets and went in favor of the hosts. Junior Alex Fedorov dropped down to fourth singles, and nearly pulled out a victory in the first set, but lost by two games (7-5)
Up Next:
Merrimack will have one day off before returning to action on Thursday with its first match against a Division II opponent this week, playing Biola University at 5 p.m.
