Women’s Rowing Ranks Second at NE10 Invitational from Lake Quinsigamond Saturday

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's rowing program competed in a Varsity Fours and Varsity Eights race on Saturday afternoon, hitting the water at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass at the NE10 Invitational. Using a point system to determine an overall winner among Merrimack, Assumption and Franklin Pierce, the Warriors finished in second place overall with 17 points. The Warriors posted the fastest time among the three in the Varsity Fours venue, beating both crews by over 40 seconds. Assumption won the event based on overall points accrued because the Greyhounds led all three boats in the Varsity Eights race.

  • Merrimack's varsity fours crew was one of four boats to post sub-8:30 times on Saturday morning. The Warriors finished a shade over six seconds behind third-place Jefferson, but Merrimack was over 40 seconds clear of fifth-place Assumption
  • UMass Lowell won Varsity Fours race in a time of 8:09.865
  • Saturday marked the first time this spring the Warriors competed in an Eights race. The Navy and Gold recorded a time of 8:16.034. Jefferson won the event in 7:30.782, pulling ahead to beat the field by over 15 seconds
  • Merrimack trailed Assumption by a shade under 15 seconds, while the Warriors beat Franklin Pierce by over a minute
  • Throughout the day, all competitors raced into an 8-12 mile-per-hour headwind

Up Next
Merrimack will compete in one of its premier events of the spring when the Warriors return to Lake Quinsigamond next week to compete in the New England Rowing Championships. The event will take place on Saturday, May 5.
