Softball Faces Pace in NE10 Quarterfinals Thursday

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The third-seeded Merrimack College softball team of the Northeast Division will head to Garden City, N.Y. to face the Southwest Division's two-seed Pace University on Thursday, May 3 at 12 p.m. on the campus of Adelphi University. It is the first of two games on the day of the Northeast-10 Conference Championship Quarterfinal round.

Last Time Out:
  • The Warriors topped Assumption College, 2-0, in the NE10 Championship First Round game on Tuesday afternoon.
  • Junior Kristina Terrazzano knocked in the only two runs of the game with a two-out single in the first inning.
  • Senior Megan Cook pitched her 24th complete game and 11th shutout of the season to earn win number 23 on the year. She fanned eight batters and did not allow a single walk in the game.
'Mack Facts:
  • Merrimack enters the quarterfinal matchup with a 31-13 record. 
  • Cook has been a force in the circle, posting 23 wins and 171 strikeouts, which set a new-single season record for strikeouts in a season. At the plate, Cook is second on the team in hitting with a .388 average, while leading the team with a .561 slugging percentage. She also has a team-high 10 doubles, while knocking in 22 runs.
  • Senior Alyssa Williamson has had a career-year at the dish. She has a .448 batting average, 23 runs scored, 65 hits, and 28 RBI.
  • Junior Nicole Nanof also has been a force at the plate. She has a career-best six home runs, 30 RBI, 31 runs scored and 42 hits.
Pace/Earlier this Season
  • The two squads played a pair of games in North Andover back on April 8. Merrimack took game one 5-1, before the Setters responded in the second game with a 6-1 victory.
  • Pace ended the season with a 25-19 record, 17-9 in NE10 play and a Southwest Division record of 14-4 mark, good for the second seed in this year's tournament.
  • Pace has three batters hitting above .350 and four hitting above .300. Niyah Brown is leading the team with a .387 clip, while knocking in a team-high 32 runs. Larissa Lab has a .364 average, 18 RBI and 52 hits. She is also slugging .503 and has a .395 on-base percentage.
  • Emma Bernet has been the ace of the Setters staff this year. She has posted a 13-5 record, pitched 15 complete games, recorded seven shutouts and has 86 strikeouts. She has held batters to a .207 average.
Up Next
The rest of the NE10 Championship weekend will be played on the campus of Adelphi University in Garden City, N.Y. If the Warriors advance to the semifinals, they will play the top-seed of the Northeast Division Saint Anselm on Friday at 12 p.m.
