NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Playing in a non-conference match at Hammel Court Thursday night, the Merrimack College women's volleyball program suffered a three-set defeat to visiting Southern New Hampshire University.

Set Breakdown
- With the score at 6-5 in favor of the visitors, SNHU used a 9-1 run to distance themselves from the Warriors. The Penmen closed the frame on a 6-1 stretch to cap a 25-10 victory for SNHU
- Merrimack played its best set of the night in the second tilt. Early points from senior Sofia Basauri, senior Katelynn Marr and junior Catherine Flaherty staked Merrimack to a 4-2 advantage. With the set squared at seven, the Warriors won three of the next four points including a kill for junior setter Sydney Buran that gave Merrimack a two-point lead (10-8). Later in the set, Merrimack was forced to use a timeout after a 4-1 SNHU rally broke a 12-12 deadlock. That spurt proved to be the deciding factor as the Penmen never relinquished the lead en route to a 25-18 win
- Freshmen Kara Haase, Sophie Meyers and Brooke Leestma accounted for four of Merrimack's first six points in the third set, keeping the Warriors within three (9-6). The Penmen went on a 5-0 spurt to create a 14-6 lead, however, and ended the night with 10 straight points to claim the win
Top Performers
- Serving as Merrimack's setter the entire evening, Buran dished out 18 assists to lead the Warriors. She recorded the second most helpers in her career, as well
- Freshman Kayla Zinser totaled a match-high tying two block solos
- Meyers led the Warriors attack overall, posting seven kills on 17 attacks for a .294 hitting percentage
- Senior Amanda Cain collected a match-high 11 digs
Notes and Notables
- The Penmen edged the Warriors in both total blocks (8-2) and service aces (12-3)
- Merrimack and SNHU will reconvene on Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. in Manchester, N.H. for their Northeast-10 Conference meeting
