NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's basketball program continues its three-game homestand on Wednesday evening when the Warriors play their lone game of the week against the University of New Haven at 5:30 p.m. at Hammel Court. Merrimack enters the game with a 5-2 record over its last seven games, while New Haven had a seven-game winning streak snapped in its last contest against Bentley.
Promotions:
- Fuddruckers will be attendance at Wednesday's game, serving complimentary hot chocolate and cookies to all fans in attendance in the Hall of Fame Lobby outside of Hammel Court! The local establishment and Merrimack Athletics sponsor will also award a special prize for the winner of tomorrow's halftime contest.
Five Things to Know:
- Merrimack nearly handed Le Moyne its first loss in nine games on Saturday, only to falter by two points to the Southwest Division's top program. Senior Karlee Alves posted a strong effort with 10 points, eight assists and six steals while junior Denia Davis-Stewart registered her sixth double-double in nine games with 10 points and 11 rebounds
- Davis-Stewart's recent string of dominant efforts has included averages of 16.6 points and 12.7 rebounds per game, occurring over the last nine contests. Her 69 total blocks also lead the NE10 and is tied for the nation's high. Alves also has individual numbers that rank among the nation's best. The point guard paces the country with 156 total assists and is third in the nation with a league-leading 62 steals
- Offensively, senior Lindsay Werner has maintained her team lead in scoring, averaging 15.2 points per game. The shooting guard has hit a team-best 40 3-pointers over 17 games.
- In addition to Davis-Stewart, Merrimack's offense features three other players averaging in double figures. Senior Lindsay Werner leads the team with 15.9 points per game. The sophomore tandem of Alyssa Casey and Mayson Kimball have also been pivotal to Merrimack's attack. The former averages 13.3 points per game and the latter contributes 11.6 per contest. Freshman Kate Mager has come on strong, ranking second on the team in triples with 36 over 18 contests
- As a team, Merrimack is on pace to break multiple team records on the offense end. The Warriors lead the NE10 and rank 10th in Division II with 156 triples made. That total rests 27 shy of the program record of 183 made during the 2012-13 campaign. The 2018-19 squad is also averaging 73.56 points per contest, which is in the ballpark of the program-best 74.6 scoring average established by the 2003-04 unit
- New Haven boasts one of the league's top individual threats in Alexandria Kerr, who leads the Chargers with 16.3 points and 9.5 rebounds per contest. Kerr is also second in the NE10 in steals (59), trailing only Alves. The Chargers' defense ranks second in the league overall, relenting 55.4 points per contest
Series History:
- The 18th game between Merrimack and New Haven will go down tomorrow, which finds the Warriors owning an 11-6 edge in the all-time series
- The Warriors held New Haven to 27 points in their meeting last year, the fewest points Merrimack had allowed against a Division II opponent since 2003-04
- Werner (14), Casey (11) and Davis-Stewart (11) all scored in double figures in the most recent contest, while Davis-Stewart added 12 rebounds and five blocks
