Women’s Basketball Suffers Setback at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, MASS. –  The Merrimack College women's basketball team lost its third game of the season against the College of Holy Cross 68-42.  Sophomore Kate Mager paced the offense for the Warriors scoring 14 points on the night.  Senior Denia Davis-Stewart blocked five shots to continue her dominance in that department.  With the loss, Merrimack moves to 3-3 on the season.

Rapid Recap
  • Mager and junior Alyssa Casey opened up the scoring for the Warriors after knocking down back-to-back threes that gave Merrimack a 6-2 lead early in the first quarter.  Casey ended the quarter hitting a buzzer beating layup to put the Warriors down two heading into the second.
  • Holy Cross controlled most of the second quarter.  Megan Swords scored nine points in the for the Crusaders.  For Merrimack, Mager hit another three to cut into the Crusaders lead..
  • In the third quarter, freshman Diamond Christian provided a spark off the bench for Merrimack.  Christian had three points and assisted on two other baskets in the quarter.  Mager stayed consistent knocking down another three to go with two free throws in the frame.
  • Freshman Alana Fursman hit two shots from behind the arc in the fourth quarter to give Merrimack an offensive boost.  Mager found the bottom of the net from deep for the fourth time in the game to give her a team-high 14 points.
Notes and Numbers
  • Mager led the team in scoring for the first time this season.  It is the third game she has scored in double-digits.
  • Casey had a team-high seven rebounds on the night.
  • The Warriors shot 100% from the line going, 7-7.
  • Merrimack had two more steals then Holy Cross.

The Warriors stay on the road to face Brown next Tuesday for their last game before Thanksgiving.  Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN +.
