NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College softball program kicks off its 2019 campaign this Friday, taking part in the annual Snowbird Softball Freeze Out Tournament in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
The three-day tournament will begin Friday morning, as the Warriors will see six teams over the weekend. Starting with Millersville, Merrimack will square off with Slippery Rock, West Virginia State, Clarion, Lock Haven, and Felician.
2018 Recap:
- The Warriors finished the regular season with a 33-16 overall record, advancing to the NCAA East Regional Final.
- The program went 5-1 in last year's Snowbird Softball Freeze Out; this year, it'll play three of the six teams from last year's tournament.
- Merrimack finished the regular season 13-5 overall, and had a 13-3 record in games played at a neutral site.
- The Warriors were a powerhouse at the plate – it was second in the conference in batting average (.300), second in slugging percentage (.412), third in runs scored (404), and third in stolen bases (67).
- In over 1,400 chances, Merrimack committed just 33 errors in 2018, and led the NE10 in fielding percentage (.977).
Five Things to Know:
- Merrimack returns seven seniors to this year's roster, and will introduce eight freshman to the 2019 lineup.
- The 2019 NE10 Coaches' Preseason Poll had the Warriors picked to finish third in the Northeast Conference.
- The team returns three of its top five RBI leaders; the trio of senior Nicole Nanof, senior Hannah Johnson, and junior Caitlin McBride combined for 75 runs-batted-in during the 2018 campaign.
- Seven of the nine total players who took part in 75% of last season's contests return for the 2019 season.
- The Warriors will take on 24 non-conference opponents before NE10 play begins on March 20th.
