NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – In one of the biggest weekends of the regular season, the Merrimack College women's ice hockey program will hit the road for two key matchups this weekend, playing #3 Northeastern Friday night before traveling to New Hampshire to take on the Wildcats Saturday afternoon.

With the current Hockey East standings closer than ever, both games for the Warriors this weekend have the potential for serious lateral movement. Northeastern's 38 points puts it six points ahead of Boston College for first place; a win in its only game of the weekend could put the program four games clear of the top spot. Merrimack currently sits safely in fifth, two points below Providence and just two points ahead of New Hampshire. While Merrimack's match with the Howlin' Huskies takes place, New Hampshire will be playing Boston College; the Wildcats will then play host to Merrimack Saturday.

Five Things to Know:
  • Northeastern is coming off a shootout loss to #8 Boston University in the first round of the women's Beanpot; the program's last Hockey East loss came against #10 Boston College on January 12th.
  • Junior Mikyla Grant-Mentis recorded twelve points in the month of January; she was runner-up for Hockey East Player of the Month.
  • Although UNH will play #7 Boston College before its matchup with the Warriors, the program picked up four crucial Hockey East points against Maine last weekend, producing eight goals in the weekend sweep.
  • Friday night will count as the first matchup this season with Northeastern, and will round out its season series against UNH Saturday. The Warriors are 0-2 against New Hampshire this season, losing both games by a goal and once in overtime.
  • This will be the last weekend road series for the Warriors this season; the team plays host to UConn (Feb. 15-16) and will take on Northeastern at home the following weekend.
