NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – After back-to-back road games, the No. 18 Merrimack College women's lacrosse program returns home to open its Northeast-10 Conference slate against Southern Connecticut State on Saturday. Game time from Daune Stadium is set for 12 p.m.
Five Things To Know:
- Merrimack is in search of its first victory after a pair of narrow defeats against two of the region's top schools and a Division I foe. The Warriors were denied an upset bid against No. 12 Mercy back on Feb. 19, falling by a goal despite leading through much of the contest, and then dropped a 7-2 matchup on the road against No. 7 LIU Post, an NCAA Tournament qualifier. Most recently, the Warriors fell at UMass Lowell on Tuesday afternoon.
- Merrimack is averaging 7.33 goals per game after three contests while yielding 11.67 goals per contest on the other end. The Warriors tallied 12 goals in their season opener but were held to two in their most recent outing, marking their lowest single-game output on offense since 2017. They had eight against Lowell on Tuesday headlined by a pair each from junior Olivia Colletti and sophomore Taylor Darrell.
- Senior captain Amber Feminella, who finished 2018 with a record-breaking season featuring a single-season school record of 91 points, shares the team lead alongside last year's NE10 Rookie of the Year, sophomore Haley Bartlett. Each of them have eight points, while Feminella's six goals are most among the Warriors.
- Senior Lauren Trepaney has been strong in three starts in net thus far; she ranks in the top-half in both goaltending categories in the NE10, while her 11.33 saves per game are good for second in the conference and 12th in the country.
- Merrimack has gone 13-4 against Southern Connecticut since 2002; they had won 12 straight before the Owls countered with four consecutive victories from 2014-17, but the Warriors got back in the win column with a 16-9 victory on the road last April. The Owls have dropped their first three games of the season, the closest being a two-goal loss at home against Molloy. Samantha Cozzolino leads SCSU with 10 points (8g, 2a) while Brianna Grande has 14 draw controls. In net, Laura Morton has started all three games and owns a 16.48 goals against and .414 save percentage.
