Softball Suffers Two Losses in Day Two of The Spring Games

KISSIMMEE, Fl.  – The Merrimack College softball team wrapped up day two of The Spring Games with a pair of losses, falling to St. Thomas Aquinas and Shepard Saturday afternoon. The setbacks mark a 4-5 overall record for the team as it heads into a much needed off day Sunday.

Rapid Recap (Game One)
  • Freshman Bryana Michitson got the start in the circle in game one, going 3.2 innings. She held St. Thomas Aquinas hitless until the third inning; from there, she allowed a run to score in the fourth.
  • The Warriors put the ball in play, but similar to Friday, had a hard time recording a hit. STAC ace Adrianna Dilal went all five innings, surrendering just two hits to Merrimack in the contest.
  • After giving up a handful of runs, freshman Jenna Wike came on in relief. An two-out error at second resulted in four unearned runs, putting St. Thomas Aquinas up by eight entering the fifth.
  • Merrimack utilized a hit from senior Hannah Johnson in the final frame, but couldn't bring her in.
Rapid Recap (Game Two)
  • The Warriors got on the board first, striking in the bottom of the first inning. After a Nicole Nanof single and a stolen base, Luciella Colarusso drove the senior in with a sacrifice fly, giving Merrimack its first run of the day.
  • Shepherd got back into the game in the top of the second inning, but senior Melanie DeAlmeida and the Warriors were able to get out of it giving up just a run.
  • Shepherd plated all three of its runs in the third inning. After a tough call at first, the Rams strung together four singles and a sacrifice fly before Bridget Soraghan came on in relief to extinguish the fire.
  • Merrimack continued the game with excellent at-bats, but couldn't string anything together.
