NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The No. 21 Merrimack College women's lacrosse team closes the regular season with huge playoff implications on the line when it visits 18
th-ranked Assumption on Saturday afternoon. Game time from Multi-Sport Stadium is set for 2 p.m.
Five Things To Know:
- Merrimack bounced back with one of its most dominant wins of the season on Wednesday at home after trouncing Franklin Pierce by a 16-3 margin. The win was critical for the Warriors, who are in the running for a home playoff game when the 2019 Northeast-10 Conference Championship opens next Wednesday. Merrimack would need a win and some help (losses by Bentley and/or New Haven) to finish potentially in the 3-4 seed range.
- Merrimack has won five of its last eight games, outscoring its opponents 112-70 in that span while averaging 14 goals per game during that stretch. All of their losses this year have been against nationally ranked teams, as well as one Division I opponent.
- Merrimack is now averaging 13.0 goals per game while yielding 9.60 per game on the other end, ranking fifth and third, respectively, in the NE10 in both category. They've scored 10-plus goals in 13 out of their 15 games thus far while limiting opponents to single digits in nine games, as well.
- With nine hat tricks in 15 games, senior Amber Feminella continues to lead the team in scoring with 60 points on the season (45g, 15a). Sophomore Haley Bartlett is right behind her with 54 points (42, 12a) and is two goals away from 100 for her career, while junior Ally DaCosta is the team's top playmaker with 28 assists and has 48 points overall (including 34 in her last eight outings). She set the school's single-game scoring record against Franklin Pierce and is three assists away from 100 for her career. Feminella also leads the team with 62 draw controls, ahead of rookie Olivia Valdes' 40, while sophomore Kelsey Daly has caused 15 turnovers, the most by any Warrior. Senior Lauren Trepaney has started every game in net and ranks in the top-25 nationally in both goaltending categories and in the top-four in the NE10 (9.72 GAA, .514 SV%).
- Merrimack owns a 14-7 all-time record against Assumption but hasn't won on the road since 2011. The Greyhounds are 12-4 (8-4 NE10) and average nearly 16 goals per game, led by two 80-point scorers in Sarah Reilly (83) and Emily Spath (80). In net, Allie Collins has gone 11-4 with a .426 SV% and 11.60 GAA.
