NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Winners of three straight, the 18
th-ranked Merrimack College women's lacrosse program will greet No. 3 Adelphi University on Saturday in a rematch of last year's Northeast-10 Conference Championship Semifinal, as the Warriors battle the Panthers on Motamed Field at 1 p.m.
Five Things To Know:
- Since dipping under .500 after a five-goal loss at New Haven on March 23, the Warriors have soared by their last three opponents by a combined score of 49-15, averaging 16.3 goals per game in each of those victories while winning by a combined margin of over 11 goals in each of those victories. Most recently, Merrimack blew by AIC by an 18-4 tally on Tuesday night at home. Two different players had hat tricks while six different Warriors were multi-goal getters in that win.
- Merrimack is now averaging 13.2 goals per game while yielding 8.9 per game on the other end, ranking seventh and fourth, respectively, in the NE10 in either category. They've scored 10-plus goals in eight out of their nine games thus far while limiting opponents to single digits in seven games, as well.
- With 17 points in her last three games (12g, 5a), senior Amber Feminella continues to lead the team in scoring with 40 points on the season (29g, 11a). Sophomore Haley Bartlett, the 2018 NE10 Rookie of the Year, is right behind her with 34 (25g, 9a) despite missing her last game, while junior Ally DaCosta is the team's top playmaker with 13 assists and has 28 points overall (including 14 in her last two outings). Feminella also leads the team with 38 draw controls, ahead of rookie Olivia Valdes' 25, while sophomore Kelsey Daly – a 2018 NE10 All-Conference Third Team selection – has caused 12 turnovers, the most by any Warrior.
- Senior Lauren Trepaney earned NE10 Goalkeeper of the Week honors after a 20-save week in two games last week, featuring a 13-of-18 performance in the Warriors' win over Stonehill on Saturday. She has started in every game and ranks in the top-15 nationally in both goaltending categories and in the top-four in the NE10 (8.92 GAA, .519 SV%), while her 9.40 saves per game are good for third in the conference and 34th in the country.
- Since winning the first game of the series, Merrimack has dropped the last 18 to Adelphi. Last year, the Warriors had a few early leads at home before ultimately falling by six, and in the postseason, Adelphi prevailed by a 17-6 margin. The Panthers' only loss this year has been against LIU Post. Two players boast 40 points for Adelphi, led by Alison Johnson's 49 (21g, 28a). Chelsea Abreau has 52 draw controls and 15 caused turnovers as one of the top midfielders for the Panthers, while goalkeeper Emma Lemanski owns a 7.02 goals against and .442 save percentage in 10 starts.
