Women’s Rowing Debuts at Bryant Saturday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. –  The Merrimack College women's rowing program competed in its first event of the spring season on Saturday, traveling to Smithfield, R.I. to face the Bryant University Bulldogs in both Varsity Fours and Junior Varsity Fours events. Merrimack's top fours boat impressed, finishing less than five seconds behind a Bulldogs fours crew that projects to be one of the fastest in New England this spring.

• Racing a distance of 2000 meters, the Warriors' top fours crew kept pace with Bryant's top boat. With junior Claire Foley at coxswain, sophomore Audrey Regan at stroke, freshmen Kylie Bell and Suzanne Fuller at the third and second seats, respectively, and senior Emily Crowe at the bow, Merrimack crossed the finish line in a time of 7:54.15
• In Merrimack's second fours boat, freshmen Tabitha Arnold (bow) and Meghan Smith (coxswain) made their collegiate debuts as did sophomore Andrea Cervizzi (second seat). Joined by junior Rebecca Donahue (stroke) and freshman Madeline Capodilupo, the crew posted a time of 9:09.78 in the second fours race of the day

Head Coach David LeFebvre: "Bryant is one of the faster crews in New England, and we are planning to measure our progress against them next month at the New England Rowing Championships."

Merrimack returns to action next weekend, when the Warriors make their annual trek to New Jersey to compete in the Knecht Cup. The Warriors' first day of competition will be Saturday, April 13, followed by another race day on Sunday, April 14.
