NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College football program returns to campus this weekend, uniting the 2019 edition of the Warriors for their first preseason camp as a Division I program.

Merrimack's football squad begins its first season as members of the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) this fall in addition to being the newest member of the Northeast Conference (NEC). Merrimack will play four NEC opponents this fall as it begins its four-year reclassification period into FCS.

The Warriors were introduced to the NEC during its 2019 Social Media Day earlier this summer at MetLife Stadium, where seventh-year head coach Dan Curran along with redshirt seniors Erick Browne and Marquis Spence represented the program at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

In 2018, the Warriors finished the season with a 5-5 record, but closed the campaign with victories in four of their last five games. Merrimack returns eight of its 11 all-conference selections, five of which played on the offensive side of the ball. Sophomore quarterback Christian Carter enters his second season after winning Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Year one season ago. The Baltimore, Md. native threw for over 1,600 yards over seven games last season, while rushing for nearly 500 more. Browne (Second Team) and Spence (Third Team) were also all-league picks. The defense is headlined by returning all-league players Jovan Grant, Caleb Holden and Michael Mercuri.

Merrimack plays its first contest as a FCS program on Saturday, Aug. 31, when the Warriors host Virginia Lynchburg at 6 p.m. at Duane Stadium. The Warriors play five home contests in total in their 11-game season, which also features the program's first-ever appearance on ESPN3 when Merrimack faces off against NEC rival Central Connecticut on Saturday, Sept. 7, at 6 p.m. in New Britain, Conn.
