NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College baseball team looks to build upon its first Division I weekend. The Warriors went 2-2 against Oral Roberts University last weekend. The Warriors battle the Spartans of Michigan State beginning on Friday with a single game (4 p.m.) from Fluor Field in Greenville, S.C. The Warriors will play a doubleheader with MSU Saturday before wrapping up the series on Sunday afternoon. Â
Five Things to Know:
- Merrimack split the four-game set with preseason favorites out of the Summit League last weekend, leaving Tulsa, Okla. with a 2-2 record.Â
- Sophomore Cedric Gillette was named NEC Pitcher of the Week after his shutout victory. Gillette tossed six shutout innings, leading Merrimack to a 4-0 win over Oral Roberts University. All four of Merrimack's starters worked into the seventh inning last weekend. Junior pitcher Timmy Kalantzakos also joined Gillette as a NEC Prime Performer. Kalantzakos was Merrimack's Opening Day starter, working into the seventh inning during a one-run outing.Â
- Freshman Alex Haba was named NEC Rookie of the Week after emerging from the weekend as Merrimack's top bat. Haba debuted leading Merrimack with a .429 batting average over four games. Haba started at second base in all four games, totaling a team-high six hits and three runs scored. Graduate student Cory Wasylow joined on the NEC Prime Performers list. Wasylow hit the program's first Division I home run.
- Seniors Joey Porricelli and Nick Shumski also were strong at the plate. Porricelli ended the weekend with a .375 batting average, posting 6 hits and 2 runs. Right behind him, Shumski batted .333 on the weekend with 5 hits and 1 run.
- The Warriors head to Greenville, S.C. to take on Michigan State University in a four-game set this weekend. The Spartans had an impressive start last weekend going 4-0 against Morehead State.

The Warriors will travel back down to S.C. next weekend to take on Wofford in Spartanburg. The Warriors will play a three-game series beginning on February 28 and concluding on March 1. Â Â Â
