West Long Branch, N.J. – The Merrimack College women's tennis program kicked off their spring season on Friday, by earning a 6-1 victory against Monmouth University. It was the Warriors' first win over a Division I opponent of their Division I era. The contest was played down in New jersey as the Warriors start their season on the road with two matches this weekend.

- Merrimack won the doubles point by claiming the second and third flights. Senior Mia Briggs and freshman Kelly Klaren posted a 6-2 win at No. 2 while sophomore Rosemary Campanella and classmate Hope Salts won in convincing fashion at No. 3, 6-0.
- The Warriors were able to win five out of the six flights to earn a 6-1 victory. Monmouth narrowly escaped at the No.2 flight when freshman Alyson Nerf came up just short 6-7, 6-7.
- At No.1 singles, sophomore Kristina Calistro earned a hard-fought victory 6-4, 6-2. At flights three through six, the Warriors were able to win rather comfortably, including Briggs who only dropped one game in both sets at sixth singles. Briggs won the match convincingly 6-1, 6-0. The Warriors improved to 6-0 overall with their combined record from the fall season.

Merrimack will return to action tomorrow, where the Warriors will square off against Northeast Conference (NEC) Mount St. Mary's at 1:00 P.M. The Men's team will be playing along with them at 1:00 P.M. as well down in Emmitsburg, Md.
