NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's basketball team's winning streak is now at six straight Northeast Conference (NEC) wins. The Warriors will head to Emmitsburg, MD to take on Mount St. Mary's University on Sunday afternoon. Merrimack is 18-8 overall in its first Division I season.
Five Things to Know:
- Senior Denia Davis-Stewart is coming off of her second 20+ point and 20+ rebound game of the season against Sacred Heart. Davis-Stewart put up 25 points and pulled in 24 rebounds during the victory on Friday. Nationally, she ranks first in number of double-doubles (21), first in defensive rebounds (10.6) and second in blocks (107). She also leads the NEC in points per game (18.0).
- Sophomore Kate Mager is having a great season shooting the three ball. In the Warriors last win against Sacred Heart, Mager went 5-7 from long range. She finished the game with 17 points. The sophomore guard is leading the NEC in three-point percentage (.453) and three-pointers made (73).
- Graduate student Courtney Clasen has been the definition of consistent during NEC play. In the game on Friday, Clasen scored eight points and pulled down seven rebounds. During her 14 NEC games, the Shoreham, N.Y. native is averaging 7.9 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.
- In its first year in Division I the Merrimack College women's basketball team is right on pace with the rest of the country. The Warriors rank fifth in fewest fouls committed (314), sixth in blocks per game (6.2), eighth in threes made per game (9.1), ninth in three-point defense (.262), 20th in three-point percentage (.362), and 21st in defensive rebounds per game (29.2)
- Mount St. Mary's is currently 17-9 on the season and 12-2 in the NEC, which is good enough for second place. Sophomore Michaela Harrison leads the team in scoring with 12.2 points per game.
