STORRS, Conn. – A pair of second period goals proved to be insurmountable for the Merrimack College men's hockey team, as it fell 6-2 Saturday afternoon to Connecticut at Freitas Ice Forum.
The host Huskies strung together five consecutive goals throughout the second and third frames to skate away from the Warriors.

How It Happened
- Merrimack took a pair of early penalties and the Huskies capitalized on the second, as Kale Howarth put one home from point blank past Warrior starting goalie Troy Kobryn.
- The Warriors built momentum throughout the rest of the first period and got a power play of their own with six and a half minutes to play. In the latter stages of the chance, Filip Forsmark cut into the attacking end, then left a pass to Chase Gresock at the point. The captain crept in, then dropped a feed for Declan Carlile, who cut in to the high slot and beat Tomas Vomacka with a wrist shot to knot the teams at one.
- Connecticut controlled play throughout stretches of the second frame and notched a pair of even strength goals to take a two-goal advantage into the closing stanza.
- The Huskies made it five unanswered goals in the third when Jonny Evans lit the lamp three times in a row to make it four for the game.
- Merrimack's power play proved to be a high point of the day, as it struck again with just over four minutes to play. On a 4-on-3 advantage, Max Newton and Alex Jefferies worked a puck to Zach Uens at the point. The defenseman glided in and ripped a shot home for his first on the campaign.
Notes & Numbers
- Newton and Gresock both tied for the team lead in shots on goal with four.
- The assist was Newton's first as a Warrior.
- Jefferies extended his team lead in scoring with his assist. He now has 10 points through 11 games.
- Connecticut ended the afternoon with a 33-28 edge in shots on goal.
- Newton went 13-for-20 at the faceoff dot.
- Kobryn played the whole game in net and ended with 27 stops.
