NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College field hockey team led the defending NEC champion, Rider Broncs, for just under 10 minutes Friday afternoon at Duane Stadium before the visitors scored twice in the second half to claim a 2-1 win.

The Warriors held a lead at the halftime break after Lauren Burke converted for her first goal of the season on a penalty corner with under six minutes to play in the second quarter. Rider responded early on in the third quarter with a pair of tallies just three minutes apart to claim the game's eventual game-winner.

Rapid Recap
  • The teams played a defensive first quarter that included just three shots, all from Rider. Brooke Bolduc was able to turn aside the lone shot on goal to keep the game scoreless.
  • Rider started to push the pace in the second quarter with five shots, including one on goal, but Bolduc stymied them again. The lone shot on goal came on a penalty stroke, as Bolduc dove to her right to make the spectacular save.
  • Just four minutes later, Merrimack responded in a big way. Katelyn Bennett had a great chance from just a few yards out, but was fouled as she released the shot to force a penalty stroke. Burke walked up to take it and slipped it home to claim the lead.
  • The home side held that lead into the halftime break.
  • Rider came out with momentum in the second half and scored twice in the opening six and a half minutes on goals from Carly Brosious and Julia Divorra.
  • Merrimack had five shots in the second half, including three on cage, but could not find the equalizer.
