Volleyball to Brooklyn for Two - Falls to LIU in First

The Merrimack College women's volleyball traveled to Brooklyn to face the LIU Sharks, but came up short in Friday night's contest.

The Basics:
Score: LIU 3, Merrimack 0 (25-15 | 25-15 | 25-17)
Records: Merrimack (0-17, 0-3 NEC) | LIU (5-10, 2-1 NEC)
Location: Brooklyn, N.Y. / Steinberg Wellness Center


Set Breakdown:
  • Merrimack had some impressive blocks and saves that kept them right with LIU, but could not come out on top due to multi-point runs by the Sharks. The Warriors also capitalized on errors made the opposing team. Maegan Hladick had two kills.
  • Set two was an identical score with a similar story line. Warriors came out strong with another back and forth beginning, but the Sharks came out over Merrimack with the help of a seven-point run. Service errors by both sides added to the point totals. Avery Brown, Brooke Leestma, and Taylor Vartanian had two kills.
  • The Warriors fought back, earning their highest point total of the night in this set. Brooke Leestma led the team with five kills, and Avery Brown had three.
Notes and Notables:
  • Leestma led the Warriors overall with eight kills, and Brown followed with five. Meghan Rumenapp lent a hand in the team's effort with eight assists.
  • In a team effort, seven different Warriors earned kills, with four of them having three or more.
