NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. —  The Merrimack women's soccer team came up short in a Northeast Conference slog at Long Island University, falling 2-1 on a rainy Saturday afternoon in New York.

- In a scoreless first half, the Warriors defense was steady with Michele Silva making a few early challenges on crosses through goal before turning aside a 36' corner kick by the Sharks to keep LIU off the board.
- Merrimack's best opportunity of the first half came midway through the first on the Warriors' own corner kick. Rebecca Harty's service bobbled around a water-logged box, where Erin Tyldesley stepped up for a low shot that edged out wide right.
- LIU took the lead in the 64' minute on a one-one-one opportunity through the right side for the goal. The host Sharks would double their lead late in the match, on an 81' tally.
- The Warriors fired four shots on goal in the second half, with Abigail Cieri, Ella Cormier and Molly Murnane challenging the Sharks keeper late from all parts of the box. Â Â
