NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. —  The Merrimack women's soccer team was unable to hold on against the Sacred Heart Pioneers on home turf Thursday night, falling 2-1 to the Northeast Conference team.

The Summary
- Merrimack took the lead in the 21st minute after the offense put pressure on Sacred Heart from the open. Meg Blanchette worked against an attacking Pioneer, lofting a ball through the midfield where it was picked up by Ella Cormier. Carrying it through the midfield, Cormier pulled up at the top of the 18-yard box, sending a short pass to a darting Abigail Cieri on the outside. Cieri send a high arching shot to the far top post, sending the ball over the outstretched arms of the keeper for a lead.
- The Pioneers tied the game late, after a high arching shot from the edge of the box was skied in with an initial save made on the cross, before Sacred Heart captured the rebound down low.
- With three minutes to play in a physical match, Sacred Heart drew a foul call in the box for a penalty kick opportunity, which the Pioneers capitalized on for the win.
Stats & Figures
- Michele Silva opened the match in goal, turning two saves in her 45 minutes in goal. Freshman Claire DeFlora came in for the second half, making two saves as the tandem combined for four saves.
- Abigail Cieri has now scored in two consecutive games for the Warriors, matching a two-game goal streak the sophomore had earlier in the season.
- Seven different players each posted a shot on goal for the Warriors, with Ella Cormier, Vanessa Wainwright, Meg Blanchette, Hallie Shiers, Molly Murnane and Sara MacFarland challenging the Pioneers' keeper.
