Men's Soccer Drops Conference Matchup Against Fairleigh Dickinson

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College men's soccer team suffered its first Northeast Conference (NEC) loss of the season on Sunday afternoon against Fairleigh Dickinson University in overtime. Frantz Pierrot scored the lone Warrior goal on a penalty kick in the 30th minute of play.

The Summary
  • The first half started off with back-to-back shots by Henry Osei, both found the gloves of the Fairleigh Dickinson goalkeeper. In the 15th minute Johan Feilscher fired a shot that was blocked by a Knights defender. Osei was taken down in the box while on the attack, which resulted in a Warrior penalty kick. Pierrot stepped up and found the back of the net to give Merrimack a one goal advantage. The Knights came out firing after the Warrior goal. In the five minutes after the score, Fairleigh Dickinson had three shots, one which was on goal and saved by Warrior goalkeeper Alvaro Rodriguez. Heading into halftime, Merrimack held a one goal lead.
  • Stefano Pesenti started the Warrior attack in the 52nd minute with a shot that nearly beat the Knight's goalkeeper. In the 66th minute Fairleigh Dickinson scored a goal to even the score at one. Osei had two opportunities towards the middle of the half, but could not best the Knight's goalkeeper. In the 77th minute Rodriguez made a critical save on a ball that was launched outside the box to keep the score tied at one. In the final two minutes, Osei had a shot that missed high and to the right, the game headed to overtime.
  • In the sixth minute of overtime the Fairleigh Dickinson fired a shot towards Rodriguez that tipped off his gloves and found its way into the net.

  • Osei led the team in shots with four, including two on goal.
  • Rodriguez had six saves on the afternoon.
  • The Warriors and Knights have played three times, all three games have gone to at least one overtime period.

Merrimack heads down to Brooklyn to take on St. Francis Brooklyn next Sunday. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
