BLACKSBURG, VA. – Sunday night marked another first in program history for the Merrimack College men's basketball team. The Warriors squared off against Virginia Tech, which was the first Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) school to ever play the squad from North Andover. Merrimack lost 72-43.
Jordan Minor scored a team-high 14 points and pulled down seven rebounds.
Malik Edmead chipped in with nine points of his own in 18 minutes of play.

- Minor had the first four points for the Warriors putting them down 12 early on in the first half. An Edmead breakaway dunk cut the lead to six with just over 12 minutes to play. A Devin Jensen three made the Hokie advantage six. On the following offensive possession, Edmead forced a turnover which turned into a Minor lay up on the other end to make the lead only four. Virginia Tech then went on an 8-0 run to put the lead back at 12. A three by Jensen turned the advantage to 10 with six minutes to play. The Hokies went on a 4-0 run to end the half and had a 16-point lead at halftime.
- A Mikey Watkins jumper started off the Warriors scoring in the second half. Three minutes later, Minor and Watkins both hit jumpers on back-to-back possessions, unfortunately the Hokie lead was still 16. After a Virginia Tech three the lead swelled up to 21 with 13 minutes left in the game. Ziggy Reid knocked down a three to cut the lead to 19 with just under nine minutes remaining. The Warriors failed to make a comeback and lost the game 72-43.
Notes and Numbers
- The Warriors forced 12 Hokie turnovers, which is the second most that they have committed so far this season.
- Merrimack scored 24 of its 43 points in the paint.
