PROVIDENCE, R.I.--   At the halfway point of the regular season, the Merrimack women's ice hockey team was unable to strike against the Providence College Friars, falling 3-0 on Tuesday night.

How It Happened
  • Neither team got on the board in the first period of the midweek Hockey East battle. Merrimack out-won Providence in the faceoff circle, as Emma Gorski turned 10 saves and the Warriors offense posted five shots on goal. Merrimack worked early to generate offense on a five-minute major power play, but were unable to crack through.
  • The Warriors defense was put to the test in the second period. Providence scored on the power play four minutes into the period to open up the scoring. The Friars added a second late to make it a two-goal game.
  • Merrimack challenged a Providence goal, getting the play overturned for a puck played with a high stick in the neutral zone on the zone entry with 11:49 to play in the third period. The Friars added the third goal with an empty net goal in the final seconds of the contest.

  • Allison Reeb led Merrimack's offensive opportunities with four shots on goal, along with Emily Oosterveld with three opportunities on net in the game.
