Women's Hockey Held Off in Overtime Against BU

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass.—Merrimack women's ice hockey was held in a tight contest at home on Friday afternoon, falling to the Boston University Terriers 2-1 in overtime.

How It Happened
  • Opening with an up-tempo first period, teams got to work generating opportunities. Merrimack's defense started the game off strong with a penalty kill, before working 11 opportunities on goal. Teghan Inglis rang a shot off the pipe with four to play in the first, keeping the game scoreless.
  • Sophomore Ally Qualley earned the Warriors' second penalty shot opportunity of the season at 3:30 of the second period. Shorthanded, she carried the puck into the zone and was hauled down for the opportunity, which was stopped by BU to uphold the stalemate.
  • In the third, Hannah Corneliusen gave the Warriors a lead. Julia MacLean brought the puck out of the defensive zone, sending a pass to Emily Oosterveld, who sent it to the slot where it was touched by BU before Corneliusen snagged the puck. She finished with a shot in low as she approached the goal mouth for the first of her career.
  • BU tied the game with four minutes to play in the third, capturing a rebound opportunity. The Terriers took the overtime winner on a rebound that was cleared out to the circle for the shot.
Notes & Numbers.
  • This was the second time the Warriors have gone to overtime with Boston University this season, earning a 4-4 tie and shootout win at Walter Brown on Oct. 15.
  • Postgame, the Warriors celebrated the collegiate career of graduate student Dominika Laskova. The Prague native will be competing with the Czech national team in the Olympics for the remainder of the season.
