Women’s Tennis Suffers Defeat at Sacred Heart

TRUMBULL, Conn. – The Merrimack College women's tennis team played its first Northeast Conference (NEC) match of the season on Saturday evening, facing Sacred Heart University at the Tennis Club of Trumbull. The host Pioneers defeated the Warriors by a 7-0 margin.

  • The night began with three doubles matches. Merrimack won one of the three flights, with its second duo of junior Rosemary Campanella and sophomore Allyson Nerf winning by a convincing 6-2 score against Sacred Heart's second pairing. The Pioneers won the first and third flights by the same final tally, 6-3, to claim the doubles point. SHU led, 1-0, heading into singles
  • Singles flights No. 3-5 finished first, with Sacred Heart clinching victory after No. 5. Sophomore Mikaela Johnson Campana played at fifth singles as well as third doubles on Saturday, making her Merrimack debut after transferring to the team via American International College
  • The closest match of the night came at first singles where junior Kristina Calistro played 10 games in her first set. Sacred Heart's top option, Ciara O'Toole, won the frame, however by a 6-4 margin. The second set went in O'Toole's favor too, 6-3
