PHILADELPHIA – The Merrimack College field hockey team's offense started to create in the second half Friday night at Howarth Field, but was unable to convert in a 2-0 season-opening defeat to Temple.   Â
Riley Brown performed exceptionally well in the game's opening half hour in the cage, but the Owls were still able to push through for a pair, but Merrimack turned the tides in the closing 30 minutes. Merrimack had a pair of penalty corners and two shots to go along with some tremendous chances, but it could not finish.

- The two sides eased into the game with just a pair of shots combined in the opening 15 minutes, including one that was stopped by Brown.
- Brown kept her impressive evening going into the second quarter when she made a pair of saves from in-tight to keep the Warriors in the game.Â
- Temple was able to break through on a rebound goal with 9:54 to go in the half, then doubled its lead in the final two minutes before the halftime break.
- The Warriors had a better second half and were in the game right up until the end. Brooke Bolduc entered in goal to begin the closing half hour and was inches away from stopping a penalty stroke when she guessed correctly on Devin Kinzel's chance, but the ball hit the pipe.
