WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Merrimack College women's volleyball team closed out the Army Invitational with the host Army Black Knights on Saturday, falling in West Point.

The Basics

Set Breakdown:
  • In the first set, Army stretched for a 9-4 lead, with early kills from Sydney Green and Kayla Zinser keeping Merrimack in striking distance. The Black Knights went on a five-point streak before the Warriors struck back for three to narrow the gap before Army pulled away to take the set.
  • Army jumped out to an early lead in the second, despite the five kills Merrimack had in the half, with two from Quinn Kellogg and two by Brooke Leestma. A five point stretch for Army closed out the second in favor of the hosts.
  • Teams traded points in the third set, as Maegan Hladick and Leestma tacked on three kills to set the match to 10-7. An attack error and Lauryn Mattiucci kill again had the set back within two points. The Black Knights went for three kills, broken up by two attack errors to bring the set to 14-11 for Army.
Notes & Notables
  • Quinn Kellogg led the Warriors in digs with eight in the match
  • Megan Rumenapp was second in digs with five and led the group with six assists
  • Hladick and Leestma both posted a team-high four kills, as Kayla Zinser added two on the day

The Warriors are set to travel to Holy Cross to face the Crusaders in Worcester with game time set for 7:30 p.m. on September 1.
