NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. — The Merrimack College women's soccer team fell in overtime on the road in Brooklyn, getting edged out 2-1 in overtime against the Saint Francis College Terriers on Sunday morning.

The Basics
Score: Merrimack Warriors 1
, St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers 2 (OT)
Records: Merrimack (1-6-2, 1-1-0 NEC) | SFBK (4-3-4, 2-0-1 NEC)
Location: Martone-Mejail Field | North Andover, Mass.

The Summary
  • Teams were scoreless in the first half, with Merrimack posting three shots on goal and six attempts. Defense was strong, turning aside four corner kick attempts by the Terriers in the opening 45, with goalkeeper Michele Silva making a pair of saves in the first half.
  • In the 56' the Warriors took the lead with a well-timed sequence. Merrimack worked a quick throw-in deep in the offensive zone, with the well-placed drop from Erin Tyldesley at the feet of Ella Cormier. The freshman worked against her defenders, sending a short pass to Abigail Cieri. Cieri, holding at the top of the box about 20 yards out, sent a rising shot that was too strong for the outstretched hand of the keeper for the lead.
  • The Terriers responded in the 66' after taking space close to goal to draw the game even, and carried the momentum into the extra time with the game-winning goal just 90 seconds short of the conclusion of overtime.
Stats & Figures
  • Cieri has now scored in back-to-back games for the Warriors after tallying a goal against Howard on Sept. 19.
  • Jessica Haskin and Brianna CoCo, along with keeper Michele Silva, competed in all 98 minutes of match play, with Caroline Howland leading the subs with 28 minutes from the bench.
