Bulldogs Come on in Second Half, Top Field Hockey

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Three tallies in the third quarter were the deciding factor Friday afternoon at Johnson Field, as the Merrimack College field hockey team was knocked off by Yale by a 6-0 final.  

The teams played scoreless for the game's opening 12 minutes, before the Bulldogs tacked on a pair to close the first half. Riley Brown continued her strong play to continue the season when she made four saves in the opening half hour. A tough 13-minute stretch put the game to a close, as Yale built a sizable lead in the second half.

Rapid Recap
  • Brown made two stops in the game's first 11 minutes, before Yale broke through 12:27 into the game.
  • The senior goalkeeper kept two more shots out before the Bulldogs broke through for their second of the day with just under nine minutes to play in the opening half.
  • Merrimack threatened to get back in the game in the opening half hour with a trio of penalty corners, including two in the first quarter. Jane Bonazzoli also had an opportunity to cut the deficit in half with two minutes to play in the half, but was turned aside.
  • Vanessa Kaddaras and Katelyn Bennett had chances at goal in the third quarter as well, but the 15 minutes belonged to Yale, as it added three more.
  • The Bulldogs added one more in the fourth quarter just under five minutes in.
Notes and Figures
  • Brooke Bolduc made her second appearance of the season in the net when she relieved Brown for the second half and made seven saves to snag the team-high for the game.
  • Bonazzoli added another shot on goal in the second half to claim the team high of two on the afternoon.
