Women's Soccer Takes Double OT Draw at UMass

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. — Backed by a persistent offensive effort and keen defense, the Merrimack College women's soccer team earned a draw in its first-ever contest against UMass on Sunday.

The Summary
  • Molly Murnane took the lead for the Warriors in the 31' minute, beating her defender on the wing, finishing with a hard, rising shot from 19-yards out for her second goal in as many games.
  • Merrimack's defense fended off 12 corner kicks in regulation, with six coming in each half.
  • UMass pushed in the second half, topping off their momentum in the 76' with the game-tying goal.
  • Teams remained even in both overtimes, with Merrimack posting two shots in the first overtime and UMass notching two in the second overtime, as the game squared away in a tie.

  • In addition to Murnane's shot for a goal, Vanessa Wainwright, Hallie Shiers and Emma Pannarella posted a shot on target each.
