Women's Basketball Drops Non-Conference Game at UAlbany

ALBANY, N.Y. – The Merrimack College women's basketball team lost its second straight non-conference matchup against the University of Albany on Friday night, 67-53. Marissa Hamilton had a career-high 18 points after going 7-12 from the field. Jayme DeCesare had 11 points, as well as six rounds and four assists. Kaylee Thomas had 10 points in the loss.

  • A Hamilton three tied the game at five early on in the first quarter. Thomas then knocked down her only three of the night to give Merrimack a one possession lead. The Great Danes then rattled off eight straight points to go up five. Amaya Staton hit a jumper to stop the run. UAlbany ended the first quarter up by seven. After a Great Dane bucket to open the second, DeCesare and Ava Owens combined for four points, cutting the lead down to five. Both teams traded buckets. UAlbany then went on a nine-point run to go up 14. A layup from Molly Manion put the Warriors down 11 heading to the locker rooms.
  • A Staton jumper got the lead down to single digits in the third quarter. Hamilton then knocked down a jumper to make the advantage seven. With two minutes to go in the third, the Great Danes got the lead back up to 15 points. After a six-point Warrior run the lead was nine. A three at the buzzer made it 12 heading into the fourth. UAlbany opened the fourth quarter on a five point run earning their biggest lead of the game at 17. Owens had a layup late in the fourth to make the deficit 14 points after a back-and forth battle for the duration of the quarter.  
     
Notes and Numbers
  • Merrimack had six steals compared to UAlbany who only had four.
  • The Warriors went 11-13 from the line, shooting 84%.
  • Alana Fursman had a team-high seven rebounds.
