PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Merrimack College men's basketball team lost its last matchup before the Thanksgiving break on Wednesday night at Providence 71-57.
Ziggy Reid scored a game-high 21 points for the Warriors in the loss.
Javon Bennett was the only other Merrimack player in double figures with 11 points.
Mykel Derring had eight points after going 2-3 from distance.

- Derring got the Warriors going with a three, giving them an early lead. The Friars battled back scoring the next 10 points. Derring scored again to stop the run. Two free throws by Reid cut the lead down to three. With just over 10 minutes to go Providence was up by seven. The Friars added four points, going up by 11. A Jordan Derkack layup got the lead down to nine with six and a half minutes left in the first half. A three by Devon Savage dropped the lead down to four point with three minutes left in the first half. Providence answered with 10 points of their own, going up by 14. Bennett had a layup with two seconds left in the half to put the Warriors down 11 heading into the locker room.
- Reid hit a jumper to get the scoring going for Merrimack in the second half. A three by Jaylen Stinson found the bottom of the net, putting the Warriors down seven. Both teams traded buckets. A Stinson layup sliced the lead to six. The Friars added five points to go back up by 11. A deep Bennett three got the lead back down to eight. With 10 minutes to play in the game the Warriors were down by 10. A Reid three with eight minutes to go put Merrimack down by seven. Providence added six unanswered points, going by 13. With two minutes to play the Friars were up 14, which was enough to give them the victory.
