NORTH ANDOVER, MASS. – The Merrimack College women's basketball team won its first game of the season on Sunday afternoon against Colgate University, 65-56.
Marissa Hamilton was the leading scorer for the Warriors with 24 points after knocking down seven shots from the field and going 9-10 from the free throw line. Hamilton also pulled down eight rebounds.
Makenzie Bray had a season-high 13 points after going a perfect four for four from the field, including hitting two threes.
Jayme DeCesare was the other Merrimack player in double figures with 11 in the victory.

- The Warriors jumped out to a quick six-point lead after two buckets from DeCesare and one from Molly Manion. The Raiders battled back, scoring four straight to go down two. Bray and Amaya Staton scored on back-to-back possessions to put Merrimack back up by six. With three minutes to go in the first quarter, Kaylee Thomas hit a three to put Merrimack up by seven. Later on in the quarter, Alana Fursman hit her first three of the afternoon, making the lead 11. Colgate went on a four-point run before the end of the quarter to head into the second down seven. The Raiders ended up cutting the lead to just two points with six minutes to play in the half. Bray hit a three to stop the run. Both teams battled back and forth, both sharing the lead for a number of minutes. Colgate hit a three at the buzzer to head into the locker room up three.
- After a Raider bucket to start off the third quarter, Hamilton hit a three to put Merrimack down by two. DeCesare hit a jumper to tie the game at 37. The Warriors scored five straight to go up two scores. Merrimack finished the quarter up by four. With six minutes to play in the fourth quarter, Colgate got the lead down to just one point. Merrimack responded by going on a six-point run to go up by seven. DeCesare found the bottom of the net with a three to push the advantage to nine. The Warriors would end up winning the game by nine.
