Women's Basketball Defeated by #5 Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, IN - The Merrimack College women's basketball team dropped its matchup with #5 Notre Dame University on Saturday afternoon. Jayme DeCesare led the way for the Warriors with 15 points. Marissa Hamilton ranked second in scoring for the Warriors with 12 points on the afternoon.

Rapid Recap

• The Irish scored the first 10 points of the game. Hamilton then knocked down a three to get Merrimack on the board. Amaya Staton then hit a free throw to put the Warriors down six. Notre Dame rattled off nine straight points going up by 21. Hamilton once again stopped the run with a jumper. The Irish added six points at the end of the quarter to go into the second up 19. Both teams traded buckets for the first two minutes of the second quarter. Notre Dame then added eight points. For the third time, Hamilton stopped the run with a jump shot. With two minutes to play in the first half, DeCesare hit a three to put Merrimack down 31. She hit another three right before the end of the half to put the Warriors down 35 at halftime.
• Makenzie Bray hit a layup to start the scoring for Merrimack in the second half. Notre Dame added 11 points, going up by 43. Alana Fursman stopped this run with a jumper. In the fourth quarter DeCesare knocked down two threes, but the Irish proved to be too much for the Warriors to handle.

Notes and Numbers

• The matchup with Notre Dame marks the first time Merrimack has played a national ranked Division I team on the women's side.
• DeCesare went 5-9 from long range.
• Hamilton also had three blocks.
