Men's Basketball Falters Against Boston University

NORTH ANDOVER, MASS. – The Merrimack College men's basketball team fell in the first of four games in Lawler Arena on Friday night. The Warriors were led by Jordan Minor who scored 21 points, after hitting nine shots from the field. Ziggy Reid continued his great start to the season, scoring 13 points and pulling down five rebounds. Reid also went a perfect seven-for-seven from the free throw line. Mykel Derring hit three shots from beyond the arc for nine points.

  • Merrimack started the game with a three from Javon Bennett. The Terriers added five points to go up two. Derring hit his first three to send the Warriors back up one. With 10 minutes to go in the first half, the score was tied at 17. Bennett hit a jumper to go up by two. Derring sunk his second three of the half with just over nine minutes to play to make the Merrimack lead four. Boston University then scored eight straight unanswered points to go up four. Minor stopped the run with a layup. The Terriers scored 10 points to go up nine with just under two minutes to play in the first half. Reid hit four free throws before the end of the half to send Merrimack into the locker room down just five.
  • Reid got the scoring going in the second half with a layup, cutting the lead to three. Derring then knocked down a three to tie the game at 38. The Terriers added five points to go up five. After a Reid jumper, Boston University went on another 10-point run to go up 13. With four minutes to play the Warriors were down 19. Minor scored four in a row to slice the lead to 15. Merrimack got the lead down to 12, but it was not enough to get past the Terriers on Friday.

  • The Warriors had six blocks, including three from Minor.
  • Boston University barley edged out Merrimack in bench scoring 32-30.
  • Bennett had three steals, which brings his season total to 28.
