Late Push Not Enough for Women's Basketball to Beat Boston University

BOSTON, MASS - The Merrimack College women's basketball team fell to Boston University on Wednesday afternoon 73-65. Marissa Hamilton was once again the leading scorer with 20 points. Alana Fursman had a season-high 12 points to go along with seven rebounds. Jayme DeCesare added nine points and six assists in the loss.

  • Hamilton got the scoring going for the Warriors with five point right out of the gate. After a Terrier bucket Makenzie Bray scored on a layup. The lead was four after a DeCesare three found the bottom of the net with five minutes to go in the third. After Boston University cut the lead to one, Fursman hit a three to go back up by four. The first quarter ended with a Fursman layup putting Merrimack up by five. Amaya Staton got the second quarter scoring going with a layup making the lead seven. Boston University then scored 11 unanswered points to flip the game and go up by four. Staton had a jumper to stop the run. Back-to-back threes for the Terriers made the lead eight. The Warriors ended the half on a four-point run to head into the locker room down by three.
  • Boston University opened the second half with four points going up by seven. Molly Manion hit a jumper to get the lead down to five. With four minutes to go the Terriers made their lead double digits for the first time. Their lead ended up being 11 points heading into the final quarter. Fursman scored first in the fourth quarter, getting the lead down to nine. Boston University then scored six straight points, going up by 15. With five minutes to go the lead was 20 points. A strong final five minutes from the Warriors got the deficit down to eight, but it was not enough to beat the Terriers.

  • Staton had a career-high 13 rebounds.
  • Merrimack shot a season-best 44% from three.
  • Staton also had four blocks.
