Warriors Dominate in Clean Sweep of Mount St. Mary's

BEVERYLY, Mass. – The Merrimack College men's tennis team didn't let the last-minute change to this contest get to them when they took on Mount St. Mary's. The Warriors saw their most dominant performance of the young spring season against the Mountaineers as they took this one 7-0.
 
The Warriors were once again led by sophomore, Jan Semerak, who won both the matches his competed in. Freshman, Charles Robertson, had one of the most convincing wins for Merrimack at singles #6. He won the match while winning 12 of the 14 sets.

Rapid Recap
  • In the doubles side of things doubles #3 got things going. The Warriors saw freshman, Henrik Lindeman and Valentin Riveros go up 5-0, but then the Mountaineers came back winning three points in a row. Lindeman and Riveros then shut the door winning the sixth point to take the match. Next up in doubles was doubles #1 which featured Semerak and senior, Jonathan Garcia. The tandem followed up their teammates performance and went up 5-0 in their own match. The Mountaineers came storming back bringing things back to 5-4 before the Warriors came away with it 6-4. Last, but not least in doubles #2 the Warriors went with senior, Conrad Koch and freshman, Keita Duclos. The paring had their way with the Mountaineers eventually winning 6-4 to sweep doubles.
  • In singles the Warriors saw more success as Robertson finished up first in the 6 spot. The freshman dominated by only allowing two points in 2 sets. Garcia wrapped up next for Merrimack as he started things out by taking the first set 6-0. He then captured the point for the Warriors by winning the second set 6-2. Senior, Andre Singer, took to the court looking to gain some serious momentum for Merrimack. He did exactly that as he captured the point by scores of 6-2 and 6-2. In the 5 spot, Lindeman hopped back out trying to win his second match of the day. The Mountaineers put up their hardest fight against the freshman, but Lindeman prevailed by scores of 6-3 and 6-4. Riveros concluded his match next looking to continue keep the shutout alive. The Mount put up another incredible effort, but Riveros came out on top by scores of 7-5 and 6-4. Finally, Merrimack concluded the shutout (their first of the Spring season) with Semerak. The Teplice nad Metuji, Czech Republic native did what he does best and won the match by scores of 6-3, 2-6, and 6-1.

Merrimack will have a quick turnaround as they return to action tomorrow from Bass River Tennis Club at 5:00 pm.
