Baseball Suffers Setback Against Sacred Heart

ANDOVER, MASS. – The Merrimack College baseball team battled with Sacred Heart University for the second straight day and lost game two of the three-game series. Andrew Selima hit a grand slam in the first inning to give the Warriors some momentum. The bomb was his third of the season. Braydon Dolbashian also homered for Merrimack in the defeat. Bryant Skurbe and Anthony Gentile added RBI's for the Warriors.

  • An action pack first inning was started by the Pioneers after a home run by their two batter. The long ball gave them an early two-run lead. Gentile singled with one out in the first. Michael Golankiewicz drew a walk to put runners on first and second. Skurbe then singled through the hole to score Gentile. Dolbashian drew a walk, loading the bases. Selima came up to the plate and hit a grand slam to put the Warriors up three. Ben Nelson then singled, but did not get past first. Merrimack starter Vin Zappulla got Sacred Heart to go down in order in the second. Alex Haba singled in the second, but was left on first. Zappulla got out of a runner in scoring position jam in the third. Scott Elliott ripped a two out singled, but was left on first at the end of the inning.
  • The Pioneers added five runs in the top half of the fifth to take a two-run advantage. Sacred Heart added four more runs in the top of the sixth to go up six. Dolbashian led off the bottom of the sixth with a home run, the first of his Warrior career. The bomb put the down five. Sacred Heart added another run in the eighth to go back up by six. Skurbe singled in the bottom half of the eighth for his second hit of the game. Selima singled with two outs which moved Skurbe over to second. The Warriors failed to get either across home plate. The Pioneers got one run in the ninth. Haba drew a walk with two outs in the ninth to try and start the Warrior comeback. He then stole second. Gentile singled and scored Haba.

  • The grand slam by Selima his the second of his collegiate career. The first happened in his time at Holy Cross.
