BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The Merrimack College baseball team lost game one of its three-game series with Long Island University on Friday afternoon.
Ben Nelson had three hits and two RBI's for the Warriors in the loss.
Alex Haba,
Michael Golankiewicz and
Stephen Santarpia all had two hits for Merrimack.
Wyatt Villella pitched five innings, let up five runs on seven hits and struck out four and earned a no decision.

- Haba opened the game with a single to left. Scott Elliott then walked to put runners on first and second with no outs. Golankiewicz then doubled to right, scoring Haba and advancing Elliott to third. Nelson then singled to right, scoring two and giving Merrimack an early three run lead. Long Island got one run back in the bottom of the second to cut the lead to two. Kurtis Stadnicki drew a walk to start the second. He was then caught stealing second. Santarpia singled later in the inning, but was left on first. Golankiewicz doubled in the third. Andrew Selima and Nelson both drew walks to load the bases. The Sharks recorded the third out without a Warrior getting across home plate. Long Island score three in the third to take a one-run advantage. Elliott singled in the fourth, but was left on first.
- Nelson singled with two outs in the fifth, but did not leave base number one. The Sharks added one to their lead in the bottom of the fifth. Santarpia launched a one out double in the top of the sixth to give the Warriors some momentum. Haba then reached on an error that scored Santarpia and brought Merrimack within one. Nelson singled once again in the seventh. Stadnicki then crushed a double to right, scoring Nelson and tying the game at five. Haba doubled in the eighth, but was left in scoring position at the end of the inning. After three free passes in the ninth the Warriors had the bases loaded, but could not get anyone home after a two out ground out. Long Island scored in the bottom of the 10th on a passed ball.
