Dolbashian and Heisner Combine for Clutch Ninth That Gives Baseball Victory Over Long Island

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Braydon Dolbashian ripped a two RBI single in the top of the ninth that gave Merrimack College baseball the lead and eventually the victory over Long Island University. Peyton Heisner pitched the ninth and found himself in a bases loaded, one out situation. Heisner rolled a double play ball that ended the game, earning him his first win of the season. Alex Haba had three hits for the Warriors in the victory. Scott Elliott tripled and had two RBI's for the Warriors.

  • Elliott singled with one out in the first, but could not find a way to get off first base. The Sharks added a run in the bottom of the first to take an early lead. Haba get his first hit of the game by way of a single in the top of the third. Again, the Warriors failed to get a runner into scoring position. Long Island added a run in the third to increase its lead to two runs. Dolbashian singled, but finished the inning stuck on first.
  • In the top of the sixth, Michael Golankiewicz singled to lead off the inning. He then advanced to second on an error by the first basemen. Ben Nelson drew a walk, putting runners on first and second with two outs. Merrimack did not end up scoring in the inning. In the seventh, Stephen Santarpia singled with one out. Haba then followed up with a single of his own putting two runners on. Elliott then tripled to right, scoring both Santarpia and Haba, tying the game at two. Later in the inning Elliott would scoring on an error by the shortstop, giving the Warriors the lead. In the bottom half of the seventh the Sharks took back the lead after a single found a home down the line. Elliott led off the ninth with a walk. Golankiewicz then followed up with a free pass of his own, putting runners on first and second with no outs. Bryant Skurbe grounded into a fielder's choice, but move both runners over a base. Dolbashian then singled, scoring both runners and giving Merrimack a one-run lead. In the bottom half of the ninth, Heisner loaded the bases after a single, hit batter, and walk. The game ended on a 3-2-3 double play that was executed to perfection.
